Our Client is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing shelter, support services, and resources to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Charlotte. Mission is to empower those in crisis by offering safe housing, advocacy, and pathways to sustainable independence.

Position Overview:

The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive officer , responsible for the overall leadership, strategic vision, and operational effectiveness of the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED oversees program development, fundraising, community engagement, and financial management to ensure the shelter’s long-term sustainability and impact.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy:

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  • Provide leadership to staff, volunteers, and stakeholders to foster a mission-driven culture.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and advocate for the organization within the community.

Fundraising & Development:

  • Lead fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor relations, and major gift cultivation.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with corporate sponsors, philanthropic organizations, and government agencies.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of fundraising events and campaigns.

Operations & Program Management:

  • Ensure high-quality service delivery to shelter residents through effective program development and oversight.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, implementing improvements as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Financial & Administrative Oversight:

  • Develop and manage the organization’s annual budget in collaboration with the Board and finance team.
  • Ensure financial sustainability through sound fiscal management and resource allocation.
  • Provide transparent and timely financial reporting to the Board and stakeholders.

Community Engagement & Advocacy:

  • Build and maintain relationships with local government, social service agencies, and community partners.
  • Advocate for policies and initiatives that support individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Represent the shelter at public events, conferences, and media opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, social work, business administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of leadership experience in the nonprofit sector, preferably in homeless services or social services.
  • Proven track record in fundraising, grant writing, and donor relations.
  • Strong financial management and budgeting experience.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Passion for serving marginalized populations and addressing homelessness.
